WELCOME ATOM GENERALS!!
Atom General Parents:
I am extremely excited and proud to have the opportunity to coach the Atom Rep squad for the 2019-2020 hockey season. I am looking forward to meeting and getting to know the boys and girls as well as the families.
While my son's time as a General was brief, I am very thankful to coach Jarrett Adams, his coaching staff and the St. George hockey families for making him feel so welcome. Anson truly enjoyed his time and met some great friends.
As a coach, I was very fortunate to work with the midget group, and learn from coach Paul Halyk. It was so beneficial in my understanding of rep hockey and gave me a real appreciation for the quality men that St. George Hockey produces.
I had a chance to take in the midget playoffs and the outstanding atmosphere of an arena packed with supporters. It honestly gave me chills and I can only imagine how the boys must have felt. It was a truly proud moment for many.
I mention the midget playoff specifically because, that moment, is exactly what I want for this atom group. While it may not occur in year 1, I am hopeful that the coming season will lay the foundation for the future. I will be working hard to develop a plan that helps each of the players improve, as both hockey players, and young men and women. There will be a focus on self responsibility, self control, and respect for my teammates, opponents, coaches and officials.
What I am asking from the Atom families is an opportunity. I want the opportunity to work with the kids, to help them develop or increase a love of the game, to understand that success is not always dictated by the score of a game and that anything worth having requires hard work.
In the coming days, we will be scheduling a couple of introductory skates for any atom player (Major or Minor for the 2019/20 season) house or rep. It will give us all a chance to meet and for the kids to understand the pace and intensity of the practices I run.
