Bantam LL Captures Tournament Championship
The St. George Generals Bantam LL won the Ernie Clayton Memorial Tournament, hosted by the Welland Minor Hockey Association, this past weekend.  The team went 5-0 over the three day of tournament play

The team beat teams from the host Welland (3-2), LaSalle (7-6), and familiar foe Hespeler (5-0) in round robin play, which set up a tough contest against another Grand River LL team, Embro.  Despite falling behind early, our boys started to find their game and pulled ahead in the third to a 7-5 victory.  Ryan Korber was our top sniper and Stephen Condon made some brilliant saves at critical times to hold back Embro.

This set up a meeting in the final against Belmont, who had also gone undefeated to reach the finals.  After the national anthem, Belmont raced to a quick 3-0 lead, before we managed to get on the score sheet.  Despite winning the second period, we were still behind 4-3 going into the third.  Ryan Korber scored on a penalty shot, which tied it up and changed the momentum of the game in St. George’s favour.  The teams exchanged goals in the final minutes of the third, with our boys almost putting it away in the dying seconds, but the horn sounded, and we went to 4 on 4 sudden death overtime.  The boys keep going right from the drop of the puck, with Jacob Rosebrugh getting the golden goal, hammering a shot from the point past the Belmont goalie.

A shout out to the Belmont Rangers Bantam LL team and coaching staff for a tremendous game, and to the Welland Minor Hockey Association for hosting this tournament.  Thanks to the parents for supporting the boys over the weekend and special thanks to Traci Kelly for organizing the tournament, hotel, and meals
