With (30) thirty teams participating in a total of (54) games
at (4) four arenas in St. George, Paris and Brantford we hosted the largest
tournament in the history of St George Minor Hockey. The weekend was capped off with three great championship
games on Sunday afternoon
Over the October 23- 25th weekend St George Minor Hockey hosted the annual Jack Tolhurst Memorial Novice, Atom and Peewee Tournament. This tournament is named in honour of the late Jack Tolhurst who was a legendary long-time coach, executive. League president and OMHA contact who was tireless dedicated volunteer for St George Minor Hockey.
Our town was also a buzz all weekend with the preparations of Christmas lights and Christmas parade for Evan Leverage. We advised teams of this prior to the commencement of our tournament about Evan’s situation and pending parade. Like true Canadian hockey people we got an unbelievable response. Teams brought gifts for the Leverage family, made financial donations and in general supported the whole night. CHCH TV came to the arena and did an on air interview with our president Trevor McLean. The size of the crowd had an impact on our tournament. We had to get teams into the arena early and make alternative arrangements leaving because the overflow of traffic literally shut the town down.
Tournament of this size cannot be a success without volunteers. A big thankyou to all the people who spent long tireless hours at the arena all weekend. Without your help and hard work the tournament would not have been a big success
