Evan Leversage, The Boy Who Moved Christmas
Evan Leversage developed an inoperable brain tumor before he turned 2. He underwent grueling chemotherapy and radiation, but the tumor keep growing, and in September of 2015 at just 7 years old, Evan and his family ran out of options. He came up with a "bucket list" of everything he wanted to achieve while he was still alive, and one of the top items was "one last Christmas."
His entire town of St. George, Ontario burst into action, decorating Christmas-style on October 24. A movie production company brought fake snow, 25 floats were decorated, even Santa himself came to the parade and took Evan for a ride in his sleigh. Around 7000 people showed up for the parade in his honor, more than double the population of the town. Evan's story became a global phenomenon with people around the world turning their #LightsOnForEvan.
His story has inspired an Indian film, Uma, as well as a childrens book, The Boy Who Moved Christmas.
We are grateful to be able to honor Evan's life and legacy with the Evan Leversage Memorial U7/U8 Jamboree.
This year the Jamboree will be held on March 7th-8th at the Gaukel Memorial Community Centre.
